Natural Treatments Can Help with Female Hair Loss

by Jane Meggitt

Female hair loss differs from that of males. Women with hair loss don’t usually experience complete baldness, but their hair thins considerably, and bald patches and a widening part may appear. While there are FDA-approved hair loss products on the market, some are not suitable for women and others may cause dermatitis when applied to the scalp. Natural products can aid in lessening or reversing hair loss with no side effects.

Hair Loss Causes

Temporary hair loss often occurs after childbirth but should resolve once hormones go back to their normal state. Hormonal changes are a major cause of hair loss, especially among menopausal women whose estrogen levels have declined significantly. Genetics play a role. Male pattern baldness is well-known, but female pattern baldness is also a common hereditary condition. If the women in your family tend to lose large amounts of hair, odds are you also vulnerable.

Stress is another hair loss trigger, but because of the hair’s growth cycle, the hair loss may not become apparent until a few months after the stressful life event. Malnutrition, which can result from poor eating habits as well as actual lack of food, is another cause of hair loss. The body has to protect itself it if does not receive proper nutrition, and hair is the first to go.

Green Hair Care

Look for environmentally friendly shampoos and conditioners to help you with your hair loss issue. Products containing rahua oil, derived from nuts grown within the Amazon rainforest, help restore hair loss and give strands added thickness. Rahua oil particles can penetrate the hair shaft, thus making it stronger from within, rather than simply coating it as occurs with synthetic hair “thickeners.” Look for scalp products containing essential oils and apple stem cells, which boost the hair follicle production cycle and make hair grow thicker and longer.

Scalp Massage

Regular scalp massage accompanying each shampoo and a special weekly massage with scalp oil will make hair healthier. Regular scalp massage brings more oxygen to the hair follicles, stimulating hair growth.

See the Doctor

If natural methods of hair restoration don’t show some results within a few weeks of use, see your doctor. Thyroid conditions may cause hair loss, especially in younger women. The thyroid glands, located in the neck, are responsible for producing thyroid hormone and regulating the body’s metabolism. When they are out of whack, all sorts of issues follow.
