Aging, environmental toxins and hormonal shifts can result in thinning hair. While there are medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, available for treatment of the condition, you can help prevent mild hair thinning with some basic home remedies.

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera gel massaged into the scalp regularly can promote hair growth. Drinking aloe vera juice daily can result in healthier skin, which also aids hair. Perhaps the easiest way to obtain aloe vera gel is by growing aloe vera as houseplants. Once a week, cut a leaf off the plant. Each leaf will provide you with about 2 teaspoons of gel. Whisk the gel until smooth, then apply it to your head. Massage it into the scalp for about five minutes, and leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse it out thoroughly with warm water.

Eggs

Eggs are an age-old remedy for hair thinning. They are chock full of ingredients promoting hair growth, including biotin and zinc. Take an egg and crack it into a bowl, adding 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Stir until smooth, then place the mix on your head. Work it in thoroughly from the hair follicles to the ends of your hair. For this remedy, you must leave the mix on your head for a half hour. Then, wash it out with a shampoo, preferably one with natural ingredients. One caveat: Rinse out with cool, not warm or hot, water to encourage hair growth.

Green Tea

Because green tea is so rich in antioxidants, it’s wise to drink two or three cups daily. You can also use green tea directly on your scalp to stop hair thinning. Depending on your hair length, take either two or three teabags and soak them in one or two cups of hot water. After the water cools down, pour it on your scalp. Massage the green tea into your head and hair. You must leave the green tea on your head for an hour before rinsing with cool water.

Honey and Greek Yogurt

A once-weekly paste made from Greek yogurt and honey can do wonders for thinning hair. In a bowl, mix 1 tablespoon honey with 2 tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt. Apply the paste to your scalp, using a dye brush. Leave the mix on for a half hour, then rinse with cold water.
