Do You Have Healthy Hair? Look for These 6 Signs
by April Maguire

We all spend a fair amount of time and energy making sure that our hair looks healthy and beautiful. But how do you know if you're actually succeeding? Healthy hair has a number of qualities that are easy to judge, and here are six of the best indicators that your hair care routine is working.
You've Got Movement and Body
On the most basic level, does your hair look like it has life to it? Movement, bounce and body are all indicators that your hair is thriving. Conversely, if your hair hangs limply or is flat and dull, then you may be looking at a lack of proper moisture, elasticity or nutrients.
Your Hair Has Shine
If you've got radiant, shiny locks, then you know you're doing something right. Shiny hair is an indicator that your cuticles is laying smoothly, exactly as they should be, allowing light to bounce off of your hair. Also, luminescence is an indicator that your hair is properly hydrated.
Your Locks Can Pass the Water Test
Speaking of hydration, if your hair is healthy then it should also react properly when exposed to moisture. An easy way to check this is with the water test. Simply place some of your hair into a bowl of water. If it floats, you're in good shape. If it sinks, that means that your strands are damaged or open, allowing water to enter.
You Experience Normal Shedding
Your hair goes through a natural life cycle of growth, resting and shedding. As long as you're not seeing gobs of hair sitting on your shower drain or resting on your pillow in the morning, you're likely experiencing the correct amount of shedding. And normal shedding means your hair is probably healthy.
Your Hair Doesn't Break
Breakage happens when hair is overly dry and fragile. If you don't have any trouble growing your hair to a long length, or you're able to style it without strands breaking off, then your hair is likely properly hydrated and nourished.
You're Flake-Free
Dandruff is typically an indication that there's something wrong with your scalp, which is probably having a negative impact on your hair. So if you're able to wear black without a care in the world or you're not seeing any unsightly flakes in your locks, then your scalp is probably providing a healthy, solid foundation for your hair to grow.
If you've got all six signs of healthy hair, then congratulations! Your hair care routine is paying off. However, if there's a box on this list that you failed to check off, then you know where you've got some work to do.
