Good Sportsmanship: Footballer Helps Young Fan with Alopecia

English footballer Jonjo Shelvey has just secured a very important fan. Young Harry Jacobs, age 7, suffers from Alopecia totalis, the exact same condition as his 22-year-old Premier League midfielder role model.
When Jacobs contacted Shelvey, the famous footballer sought to help out immediately. He arranged an all expenses paid holiday to Swansea hotel and then invited Jacobs to be a team mascot.
“I felt for the kid and ‘cause he’s got the same thing as me. I know what it was like growing up,” the athlete admitted to the Daily Mail. “It was quite tough with quite a lot people calling you names and stuff like that. In the end, it does make you tougher for it, so it was nice to share some experiences with him and try to guide him along the right lines.”
Jacobs, who hails from Muswell Hill, recently wrote the Premier League superstar to come to his school in Northern London and talk about their shared rare condition.
“You are amazing and scored a goal from 47 yards into the top corner,” wrote an enthusiastic Harry. “So, so, so good. I know you play for Swansea. My name is Harry and I have alopecia like you. Do you like it? I think it is medium because I can't get nits and don't have to go to the hairdressers – which is good. I don't really like it though. Can you come to my school please, but first to my house. I can take you to school then to meet my friends.”
The footballer responded almost immediately, informing the lad he was delighted to help. Shelvey promptly ordered reservations for Harry and his entire family at a fancy hotel. He also secured executive tickets and offered the chance to accompany the Swansea team as an official mascot.
“It was nice just to see the look on his face on the day when he got to walk with the team all day. It was a special day,” Shelvey told the Daily Mail.
“It’s lovely we got this chance to come down and meet Jonjo and, you know, see it for real. It is really fantastic,” said the enthusiastic father of young Harry Jacobs. “Thank you so much to him and everyone. It has just been lovely.”
