Coconut: The Secret to a Stronger Scalp

From the top of the palm trees to the tops of scalps everywhere, research has proven that coconut (oil, cream, and milk) is extremely beneficial to promoting a healthy head and treating hair fall. Fresh coconut oil is widely used in southern India and a host of eastern countries as a common treatment for dry and damaged scalps. If you are interested in a completely natural way to nourish, fortify, and shine your hair while promoting a bolstered scalp, here’s a few ways to include coconut milk into your hair nourishment sessions:

Just Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is considered a natural hair conditioner and will keep hair silky smooth, soft, and manageable. Available in most groceries, Coconut milk can be purchased in bottles or personally prepared at home. To extract the milk, take one coconut, remove the husk and grind down the ‘meat’ with enough water. Strain the ground remains. The first extraction from the meat is considered coconut cream. After a few squeezes, you will have the coconut milk. Store the extraction in a bottle, refrigerate and apply to your scalp 30-45 minutes before taking a shower. Let the milk saturate your scalp and continue with your shower- rinsing with a shampoo and conditioner. The milk can also be utilized after shampooing your hair.

Now Add Some Honey, Honey

Honey is a true sweet treat for your scalp. It contains beta-carotene, calcium, b-complex vitamins, minerals, antibacterial agents, naturally restorative enzymes, and a slew of nourishing vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A,C,D,E, K; magnesium, iron, and potassium. Blend with coconut oil and you have a truly formidable hair care product- slice up some of the coconut meat and boil with a couple cups of water for 10 minutes on a low flame. Remove, and strain the meat. Refrigerate the extraction and then mix in 5-10 drops of honey and let sit for an hour. Apply to your scalp, let saturate, and rinse off in the shower. Sweet!

Coconut Milk, Lemon Juice, and... Yogurt!

Lemon juice treats hair fall and destroys bacteria from your scalp that can spur infections. It will also help moisturize your scalp, effectively preventing dandruff. Yogurt is no slouch on healthy attributes itself. It contains a treasure-trove of enriching elements like calcium, protein, zinc, lactic acid and super-friendly bacteria. It is considered a gentle cleanser and promotes hair growth. Apply this seemingly odd, but powerful combination twice a week to your scalp twenty minutes before you shower.
