From Cloning to Robots: Top Hair Restoration Methods
by Angela Santoriello

Though there are a couple ways to lose it, there are many ways to get it back.
With science and technology changing the course of balding caused by heredity or disease, losing one’s hair is not as life-alarming as it used to be. Not only can it be stopped, a few top hair loss treatments give patients more than one option to take off their hats with confidence.
So what are these magical methods that help halt hair loss?
First to note is Finasteride. The drug that initially treated enlarged prostate glands, “is also used to treat inherited hair loss in men,” according to a WebMD report.
“Research reports show that it slows hair loss on the scalp and helps regrow hair,” according to WebMD, adding that hair growth can take up to a year for balding areas of the scalp. Business periodical Bloomberg backs the claim, saying the method is the most effective hair loss treatment, preventing further hair loss in 88 percent of men with 58 percent experiencing regrowth.
The second and popular platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) is another “growing” hair loss treatment in the industry. As noted in another Hair Loss Specialists report, PRP is an interesting method being used by both men and women.
“The application of PRP causes miniaturized hair follicles to become healthier and stronger, producing more robust hair growth,” HairCellsPlus.com explained. “Effective for both male and female pattern hair loss, PRP has also re-grown hair in alopecia area, eyebrow hypothrichosis and other patient cases with non-hereditary hair loss.”
Also making the top five methods for hair loss are laser or transplant treatments, according to Bloomberg. Unlike taking a pill or receiving PRP, the iGrow laser device calls for the patient to act as the doctor and perform the treatment on one’s self for six months. With 25-minute daily sessions, the helmet shoots out potent lasers, “forcing follicles to step up their productivity,” according to Bloomberg, adding that hair transplants are also not what they used to be, promising restoration without hair line scarring.
Reporting the success of ARTAS robotic restoration, Bloomberg calls out the computer-based treatment as one of the best.
“The ARTAS Robotic Hair Transplant gives you permanent, fuller, younger-looking hair while eliminating the drawbacks typically associated with traditional transplant methods,” the company reported. “This minimally invasive, outpatient procedure transplants your own hair without stitches or noticeable scarring.”
Rounding out the top five treatments is hair cloning. Though not widely popular and still under much research, the stem-cell method has had success in animal trials and is expected to be introduced to the industry in the next five years. While the success of tricking cells “into growing your own hair in a petri dish” remains to be seen according to Bloomberg, it is a hopeful future possibility in curing complete hair loss.
