Bradley Cooper Taking Propecia To Combat Hair Loss
by Kurt Doyle

Bradley Cooper has successfully made the transition from comedy co-star to Academy Award-nominated leading man, but he’s concerned about preventing another transition - from a full head of hair to baldness. According to an article on Radar Online, Cooper is taking pills to prevent himself from going bald.
Propecia Finasteride
Radar Online cited an unnamed source who said that Cooper ”is so anxious about his receding hairline that he’s turned to Propecia.” Propecia Finasteride is a pill designed to treat mild to moderate male-pattern hair loss at the crown and mid-scalp. One of two FDA-approved drugs for treating hair loss, Propecia is an oral medication that suppresses DHT, the hormone that causes male pattern baldness. Your genes target the DHT-sensitive hair follicles, causing them to shrink, which leads to hair loss. Propecia pills stop the development of DHT hormones, in turn stopping hair loss. The drug has been found to stop further hair loss in 80 percent of men and in some cases even reverse hair loss to some degree. The prescription pills, which are taken daily and offer results in three months, tend to work better at slowing down hair loss than re-growing hair.
Excellent Results
According to Radar Online’s source, the 39-year-old Cooper “has a lot of bald guys in his family, so he’s been on Propecia for a couple of years. And to his delight, it seems to be working.” In fact, the tightly-curled ‘70s perm Cooper featured in American Hustle was all natural, featuring no extensions, just Cooper’s own hair. It did take some effort - three hours of preparation. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Cooper explained that on set “We curled the hair one day [with curlers]. “We put 110 curlers in and then I sat underneath a heat lamp for 45 minutes on each side.”
A Long-Time Concern
Radar Online’s source claims that when Cooper made The Hangover 3 he and the other two male leads, Zack Galifianakis and Ed Helms,“had their own dedicated hairstylists, a first for the franchise and something that was demanded by Bradley” because he was worried about his hairline. He wanted the extra attention to make sure he didn’t start to show any signs of it receding.
With his family history, genetic male pattern baldness is a legitimate concern. While Cooper currently doesn’t appear to show any signs of balding, Radar Online’s source says, “Bradley is determined not to go bald and lose his leading man looks.”
