Three Ways That You Could Be Making Your Hair Fall Out
by April Maguire

By the age of 40 more than 40% of women experience a noticeable amount of hair loss. Although some of this hair loss is due to genetics, there are a number of simple activities that women do every day that could be causing their hair to fall out prematurely. So what are the most common culprits and what can you do to avoid them?
Pulling Your Hair Too Tight
One of the most common contributors to early hair loss is improper styling. While pulling your hair back into a ponytail every day may be convenient, it puts a lot of stress on your follicles and roots, which can cause damage. So if you’re committed to the ponytail, try to wear it a little looser. Additionally, it’s a good idea to avoid tight braids or hair extensions that can cause similar follicle stress. According to stylists, it’s a good idea to change up your hair routine, rotating regularly between a few different styles in order to preserve the health of your hair.
Causing Your Hair Undue Stress
Unfortunately, it’s not just stress-inducing hair styles that can damage your lovely locks. You can also cause your hair undue stress by excessive coloring, bleaching and undergoing harsh chemical treatments. Moreover, using too much heat when you style your hair can also cause serious problems. If you straighten your hair everyday or blow dry it to the point that it’s hot to the touch, then you could be weakening your hair, making it more likely to break. If you have a day off from work or you’re going someplace where you can be more casual, then give your hair a break and let it lay as naturally as you can for a little while.
Not Eating Right
As with everything else in your body, your hair needs proper nutrition in order to stay healthy and strong. All too often, however, we don’t maintain a hair-healthy diet, and unfortunately our follicles pay the price. If you want to give your hair the nutrition it needs, start with giving it plenty of protein (meat, fish, eggs, etc.), a predominant macronutrient found in hair. Additionally, it’s also a good idea to eat foods that are rich in iron and omega-3s, as this will improve the look of your hair, helping it to appear strong and lustrous.
Maintaining a full, healthy head of hair for the entirety of your life can be difficult. But by avoiding activities that induce hair loss, you can help to ensure that your hair remains healthy and radiant for as long as possible.
