Can Pumpkin Seed Oil Stop Hair Loss?
by April Maguire

If you’re a man and you’re hoping to keep a full, healthy head of hair for the rest of your life, then the odds aren’t in your favor. According to recent numbers, roughly 80% of men will experience a noticeable amount of hair loss by the time they reach 60, and the older you get, the less hair you’re likely to have. In order to combat this hair loss, men have turned to a number of different remedies, such as topical creams, medications and follicle transplantation, but surprisingly there is a simple supplement that can help to stop baldness in its tracks and even regrow hair. That supplement is pumpkin seed oil.
What Causes Hair Loss?
While hair loss can be caused by a number of different factors, the most frequent cause of hair loss in men is androgenic alopecia, commonly known as male pattern baldness. With this condition, the main culprit is a testosterone-derived chemical called DHT, which causes hair follicles to shrink. As follicles shrink, they increasingly produce hairs that are thinner and thinner, until eventually the follicles stop producing hair entirely, resulting in baldness.
How Can Pumpkin Seed Oil Help?
Currently, there are a number of products on the market that help to fight male pattern baldness by blocking DHT’s access to hair follicles. Surprisingly, researchers have discovered that pumpkin seed oil acts as a natural DHT blocker. So instead of using inorganic products that were created in a lab, men are increasingly turning to pumpkin seed oil as a way to naturally fight back against hair loss.
Does It Actually Work?
When it comes to using pumpkin seed oil to battle hair loss, there are two different options. The oil can either be applied topically and left in overnight or it can be ingested as a dietary supplement. According to researchers, the latter method is more effective, and it has been proven to stop hair loss and regrow hair. In fact, on average men who take pumpkin seed oil can see as much as a 40% increase in hair growth over the course of three or four months.
As with any hair loss treatment, however, experts caution that are no guarantees. Even though a number of men experience a reduction in hair loss while taking pumpkin seed oil, a lot of men see no noticeable effects. So if you’re looking for a new method to battle hair loss, then consider trying pumpkin seed oil for yourself and see if it works for you.
