How To: Combat Hair Loss and Dandruff with Methi Seeds

More often than not, consumers turn to mass-produced cosmetics and treatment kits to battle dandruff, dry scalp, and unsightly hair loss. However, these products are often loaded with harmful chemicals that are actually doing more harm than good. It’s time to turn to your own kitchen for an all-natural, time-tested remedy: methi seeds.
Overview
Fenugreek, often known as methi, is a wonderful spice that is commonly used in Indian kitchens. Northern Indian dishes like methi paratha are considered culinary delicacies, and have been said to greatly improve overall health. Methi leaves and seeds are natural wellness boosters, as they are loaded with antioxidants, vitamins B & C, potassium, and selenium. Both the leaves and seeds are extremely beneficial for those suffering from diabetes, as they have been proven to help lower blood glucose levels and improve glucose tolerance. While studies show that Fenugreek may help fight diabetes, many consumers are unaware that it can also contribute to healthier hair and skin.
The Benefits
Methi leaves and seeds contain agents that are known to stimulate hair growth, like vital proteins and nicotinic acid. They also contain diosgenin and lecithin, compounds that enhance hair growth, strengthen hair and rebuild hair follicles. Massaging the scalp with a methi-based paste will help regenerate hair follicles by improving blood circulation and regulating pH levels. Fenugreek paste is often used to treat skin inflammation or aggravation, and will help soothe and repair dry scalp while fighting dandruff.
Do it Yourself
Creating a methi-based hair kit at home is extremely easy and cost-effective; DIY recipes will save you a fortune compared to remedies sold in stores.
Stop Hair Loss
To stave off hair loss, use methi seed powder as a treatment prior to bathing. There are a few different ways to prepare the treatment, so find your favorite and use daily.
• Toss 2 tbsp of seeds into a mixer or grinder and combine the powder with a liberal pour of coconut oil. Stir well and massage the oil into your scalp, making sure to cover troublesome areas. Allow the mixture to sit for as little as 10 minutes or as long as three hours; rinse thoroughly when removing the paste and style as normal.
• Soak a handful of seeds in water overnight. Add a cup of water and grind the seeds into a fine paste. Apply as a hair mask and allow the mixture to sit for an hour. For added gloss and shine, take the solution used to soak the seeds and use in place of shampoo.
Fighting Dandruff
In order to repair dry, itchy scalp and combat chronic dandruff, use these home recipes to reduce inflammation and soothe the damaged skin.
• Once again, soak the seeds overnight and grind into a fine paste. Add 1 tbsp of lemon juice, mix well, and apply to affected areas. This will remove dandruff and soothe skin irritated by excessive heat or dryness.
• For a treatment that will create shinier, more illustrious hair, add a cup of coconut milk to the mixture above. Apply to affected areas as a mask and use the remaining treatment to rinse in place of shampoo.
Tips for Long Term Treatment
To ensure the long-term health of your hair and scalp, avoid heat-treating your hair too frequently or using products that contain alcohol and other drying agents. After a long day, tie hair up in a loose braid or into two plaits; braided hair stays better protected during sleep. Getting more natural sunlight increases vitamin D levels and helps the skin and scalp maintain a natural balance of essential oils.
