How Do Women Fight Hair Loss?
by April Maguire

Have you noticed that your hair isn’t quite as thick and flowing as it once was? For most women, their hair changes as they age just as their bodies do, and thinning hair can be a perfectly natural part of the aging process. But that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing that you can do to slow the process down or even stop it entirely.
In order to help you win the battle against hair loss, here is a list of the most frequent causes of hair loss in women and some suggestions about how to counteract them.
Watch What You Eat
One of the most frequent causes of hair loss in women is their diet. If you want to keep your hair healthy, then you need to keep your body healthy as well. Make sure that you get plenty of exercise and consume a nutrient-rich diet. In particular, certain vitamin deficiencies, such as a lack of vitamin B or iron, can lead to hair loss, so keep that in mind when picking out meals for the week.
What’s Happening to Your Body
Hair loss can also be caused by overall changes to your body. For example, drastic weight loss or weight gain can throw off your body chemistry and cause your hair to fall out. Additionally, hormonal changes as a result of starting or stopping birth control can affect your hair. And one of the leading causes of hair loss, especially in women over 50, is hypothyroidism. So if you have a family history of that condition, then you may want to ask your doctor to test your thyroid function.
Be Nice to Your Hair
For some women, hair loss is attributable to the way that they treat their hair. Constantly putting undue strain on your hair by pulling it back into a ponytail each day or styling it into tight configurations can severely damage your follicles, causing your hair to thin or fall out entirely. The good news, however, is that if you ease up and put less stress on your hair, then you should be able to curb your hair loss.
Losing your hair can be stressful and embarrassing, but there are steps you can take to help put a stop to the situation. If none of the above suggestions do anything to curb your hair loss, then you can always turn to one of the several over-the-counter hair loss solutions, such as Rogaine or Tricomin.
