Five All-Natural Hair Care Tips for 2016
by April Maguire

With the new year now upon us, it might be time to adjust your hair care routine. In fact, sticking to the same regimen for an extended period of time can actually harm your hair in the long run, and you may unknowingly already be engaged in other hair-damaging practices. So if you’re looking to improve the health of your locks, check out the five easy, all-natural tips below.
Stick to a Hair Healthy Diet
Maintaining a healthy head of hair starts with maintaining a healthy diet. If you want your hair to thrive, then you need to give it proper nourishment and vitamins. In particular, you want to make sure you’re getting plenty of vitamin A, vitamin C and iron on a daily basis, so consider adding leafy greens, citrus fruits and fish to your weekly meal lineup.
Don’t Use Fine-Tooth Combs to Get Rid of Tangles
When tangles crop up, many of us reach for a fine-toothed comb or brush to try to loosen it. Unfortunately, fine-toothed implements can actually damage your hair more than they help, as they routinely result in breakage. Instead, use your fingers to try to loosen tangles and work them out of your hair.
Steer Clear of Fast Growth Treatments
If you’re growing out your hair, try to avoid using fast growth treatments. Although some people do find success with these products, others notice that they induce shedding and breakage. So it’s better to be patient and allow your hair to grow out naturally.
Avoid Products with Inorganic Sulfates
In order to keep your hair looking and feeling its best, it’s a good idea to avoid products that contain synthetic sulfates. While sulfates can give your hair a better clean, they also have the unintended side effect of stripping your hair of much-needed moisture. Additionally, some people find that sulfates irritate and damage their scalp.
Get More Sleep
Your body relies on a good night’s sleep in order to stay fresh. If you want to improve the health of your hair, making sure you get a full eight hours of sleep every night is a must. And when you sleep, try to avoid doing so on a cotton pillowcase, as they can strip moisture from your hair and cause breakage. Instead, invest in a pillowcase made from a slicker material, such as satin.
Keeping a full, healthy head of hair is a never-ending challenge. But by following a few simple tips and keeping in mind what your hair needs to stay strong, then you can go a long way toward keeping your hair looking and feeling great.
