Early Warning Signs For Female Hair Loss and Tips For Stopping It

by April Maguire

While it’s at least somewhat socially acceptable for men to lose their hair, women don’t have the same luxury. Therefore, it’s important for women to hold on to as much of their hair as they can, and the easiest way to do that is through early detection and prevention of hair loss. But what are the early warning signs that you may be losing your hair and what steps can you take to stop baldness in its tracks?

Warning Signs

Fortunately, one of the most prominent signs that you may be losing your hair is also the easiest to spot. If you’re noticing more hair in your brush, on your shower drain or resting on your pillow when you wake up in the morning, then these may be cause for concern. Still, it’s important to keep in mind that our bodies shed an average of a hundred hairs per day, so the odd strand here or there around your home is probably okay. Just be on the lookout for an excessive accumulation of hair.

One of the other most common early signs of hair loss is a little bit harder to spot. According to experts, if your hair is starting to feel oilier, then it could be a sign that your hair is thinning. While the actual quantity of oil in your hair may be hard to determine, if you instinctively find yourself washing it more or using dry shampoo more frequently, then these may be signs that your hair is stressed, and you could be shedding more hairs than usual.

Tips For Preventing Hair Loss

If you’re experiencing any warning signs of hair loss, then it’s time to step up and do something about it. For starters, it’s a good idea to allow your hair to relax. A great deal of hair loss stems from causing your follicles undue stress, either through styling your hair too tightly, excessive coloring or wearing braids that weigh down your hair and damage the roots. Additionally, if you’re noticing that your hair is excessively oily, then you should take steps correct the oil imbalance. By infusing your hair with proper hydration, nutrients and antioxidants, you can help to stabilize your hair’s oil production. So look for products that are designed to eliminate excessive oil.

As you get older, it can become increasingly harder to hold on to your hair. But by recognizing the early warning signs and taking the proper preventive steps, you can help to keep your hair atop your head, where it belongs.
