7 Easy Hacks for Lustrous Hair
by Angela Santoriello

There are seven simple solutions to achieve shinier, healthier hair, and who doesn’t want that?
Normal Shedding & Wide-Toothed Combs
NDTV reports that it’s important not to panic over the loss of hair as it’s perfectly normal to lose anywhere from 100 to 150 strands a day. To prevent excess loss, never brush your hair when wet. Unlike dry hair, when hair is moist it tends to be weaker and more susceptible to breakage. Instead, “take a broad toothed comb and run it from the roots to the ends of your hair as gently as possible.”
Regular Trims
Though longer hair is often desired by many women, not cutting it at all can lead to breakage. “Cut about 1/4th of an inch of your hair every 6 to 8 weeks to avoid the split ends.” This will ensure your locks grow long and strong.
Properly Cleanse & Condition
Freshly washed hair always feels (and smells) great, but it’s not so great for the health of your hair. Try to avoid daily cleansing, and always finish with a conditioner, focusing heavily on the ends, says NDTV. When rinsing the conditioner off, a blast of cold water helps to seal off the cuticle, helping to make the hair both shinier and stronger.
Check the Ingredients
Speaking of cleansing, the brand used can make a big difference. Just as we monitor food labels Shampoo ingredients should be checked out, just as we do food labels. Sulfate, for example, enables the cleanser to work up a lather, but it also strips the hair of its natural, healthy oils.
“Researchers suggest that they strip your hair of essential oils. They're also why your eye stings when shampoo runs down the side of your face,” says NDTV. “If you feel any kind of irritation on the scalp or find your hair drying up over time, then try and buy a shampoo that's sulfate-free.”
Cool It on the Coloring
Though the aforementioned tips are relatively simple, the final hair hack is a serious sacrifice for many: no coloring. “However, if you can't resist that gorgeous shade of brown, especially under the winter sun then follow this clever advice shared on the blog Free People,” reports NDTV. “Use lemon, chamomile tea or honey as they work as great hair lighteners.”
By simply spraying a little lemon juice on hair, rinsing hair with brewed chamomile tea or adding a little honey to water when washing your hair, it will lighten up naturally, with none of the drying damage chemical coloring causes.
If you can’t pull off all the tips, at least try a few and see the difference it can make. What do you have to lose?
