5 Easy Ways for Women to Deal with Hair Loss
by April Maguire

If you're a woman dealing with hair loss, then you're far from alone. In fact, according to the experts over at the American Hair Loss Association, roughly 40% of the people who suffer from hair loss are women. Moreover, androgenetic alopecia, or female-pattern baldness, affects more than 30 million women in the United States alone. Fortunately, however, there are steps that these women can take in order to better cope with the fallout and, hopefully, limit their overall hair loss.
De-Stress Your Body
Although it may sound like new-age nonsense, most hair loss is due to stress. While most of us would like to blame our impending baldness on advancing age or poor health, it's often the accumulation of day-to-day stress that causes your follicles to stop producing hair normally. As a solution, make sure to take some time out of each day to find a nice quiet space and allow your mind and body to relax.
De-Stress Your Hair
Even if your mind and body are free from stress, that doesn't necessarily mean that your hair is. Wearing your hair in tight styles, like taut ponytails, or weighing it down with extensions can put undue stress on your follicles, damaging them and resulting in hair loss. If you want to limit your hair loss, try to wear your hair as natural as possible and allow your follicles to relax.
Use Dry Shampoo
Dry shampoo is helpful for a number of reasons. First of all, using dry shampoo every other day, instead of a full shampoo and condition in the shower, allows your hair to retain more of its natural oils and nutrients. Also, if you're looking to add volume to thinning hair, then using dry shampoo after you shower is a good idea, as it will give your roots a more texturized, fuller appearance.
Avoid Front Bangs
If you've noticed that your hairline is creeping backwards, then you may be tempted to use bangs to cover your expanding forehead. Unfortunately, bangs draw more attention to that area. Rather than having front bangs, use longer side bangs to draw attention down to your cheekbones and away from the top of your head.
Layers Are Your Friend
Layering your hair is an incredibly effective way to hide thinning and patches of baldness. Not only do layers naturally increase the volume of your hair, but they also give it more movement, making it harder for people to notice that some areas are thinner than others.
While some degree of hair loss is unavoidable, there are simple steps you can take to limit the fallout. And if you have patches of thinness that don't ever seem to recover, then a couple of simple styling tricks can go a long way toward hiding the problem and keeping you looking your best.
