4 Supplements to Supercharge Your Hair Health

by Angela Santoriello

Hard to pronounce but promising to promote hair growth, four ingredients can help you keep your head of locks, according to Youth Health Magazine.

Biotin, dihydrostesterone (DHT), methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) and gingko biloba should all be sought out “when looking for hair loss supplements or hair growing vitamins,” the publication reported.

Biotin

Confirming hair growth potency, a Huffington Post report claims that eating right, changing up hair styles and taking biotin benefit a thinning scalp. If it is not possible to “get plenty of biotin-rich foods,” in the diet, including eggs, cheese, peanut butter and raspberries, then taking some type of supplement is key.

“Studies have shown that supplementing with biotin can safely help with hair volume and thickness, in people with temporary hair thinning,” reported Huffington Post.

With first-head experience with the supplement, WebMD consumers who used biotin rated the ingredient according to five-star ratings for effectiveness, ease of use and satisfaction. Most noted surveyors claimed that since taking Biotin, they have all had a noticeable change.

DHT

Usually associated with hair loss, DHT is noted as a positive rather than a negative when it comes to hair thinning.

“Next, Dihydrostestosterone (DHT) is an enzyme that plays a major role as a moderator for hair loss and baldness,” reports Youth Health Magazine.

MSM

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) also encourages thicker hair.

“The traditional use of MSM has been to treat pain associated with arthritis, but it is often touted as a hair growth agent,” reported LIVESTRONG.com, adding there is a lack of clinical studies to solidify the medical rumor.

While Discovery Health also notes no peer-reviewed studies confirm the potency of MSM, it too reports “some doctors go as far as to say that MSM helps the body produce collagen, which helps build strong bodies, strong teeth and other health benefits.”

Gingko Biloba

Gingko biloba is equally helpful with hair loss. The tropical sounding ingredient, often touted on hit medical talk show Dr. Oz, is suggested by the University of Maryland Medical Center as an alternative therapy for hair loss. Up to 80 milligrams three times daily of Ginkgo standardized extract is helpful for alopecia and hair shaft disorders, reported the center.

Without hard evidence pointing to the possible potency of the four ingredients, there is no guarantee they actually promote hair growth. But if the recent buzz is true, clinical studies will back up the claims and have people growing with excitement.
